Bhubaneswar: In a renewed push to highlight the Congress party’s national campaign on constitutional values and democratic rights, Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge will lead a ‘Save Constitution’ rally in Bhubaneswar on July 11, party sources confirmed on Tuesday.
The visit was originally scheduled for July 9, has now been rescheduled. The announcement was made by Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) President Bhakta Charan Das, who said that AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal will also accompany the senior leaders during the high-profile public gathering at Baramunda Ground in the state capital.
The rally is being seen as a significant mobilisation effort by the Congress in Odisha, aimed at countering what it calls growing threats to constitutional governance and institutional integrity under the BJP-led Centre.
“Rahul Gandhi, along with Kharge ji and K.C. Venugopal, will address the people of Odisha on July 11. The rally at Baramunda is part of the party’s ongoing campaign to protect the Constitution and preserve democratic values,” said Das.
A preparatory meeting was held at the Congress Bhawan in Bhubaneswar to finalise logistics and mobilisation plans for the event. The meeting was attended by PCC chief Bhakta Charan Das, senior leaders, and office-bearers of the party’s state unit.
Congress sources said arrangements are being made to ensure mass participation, with workers from across districts expected to attend. The party aims to use the occasion to galvanize its cadre and project a united leadership ahead of the upcoming electoral calendar.
The ‘Save Constitution’ campaign has seen similar rallies in other states, with the Congress positioning itself as the primary defender of democratic principles in the current political climate.
