Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the Union Cabinet’s approval for the widening and strengthening of National Highway-326, describing it as a significant step toward enhancing infrastructure and connectivity in Odisha.
Modi said the project will improve transportation across the districts of
Gajapati, Rayagada, and Koraput, while creating employment opportunities and
promoting tourism and industrial growth.
The Prime Minister emphasised that the initiative will play a key role in accelerating
inclusive development, particularly in tribal-dominated regions of the state.

Welcoming the decision, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari for approving the proposal to widen the Mohana–Koraput section of NH-326, at an estimated project cost of Rs 1,526.21 crore. Highlighting the project’s importance, the Chief Minister said it will significantly enhance all-weather connectivity to remote and interior parts of southern Odisha, particularly tribal regions.

He added that the improved highway will provide better access to education, healthcare, markets, and employment opportunities, while boosting economic activity, ensuring road safety, and contributing to inclusive and holistic development of the region and the state as a whole.
Both leaders underlined that the project reflects the government’s commitment to balanced regional growth and development of underserved areas.
