Bhubaneswar: Senior leader Mohammed Moquim announced on Monday that he will launch a new political party in Odisha on January 12, coinciding with National Youth Day.
The former Cuttack MLA, who was recently expelled from the Congress over alleged anti-party activities, said the new outfit will focus on promoting young leadership, especially from the state’s coastal districts.
Speaking to a regional TV channel, Moquim said
that formal groundwork for the party would begin on January 12, while the
official formation is expected by the last week of March.
He added that the party’s name would maintain an
association with the Congress, though the final name is yet to be decided.
“Consultations are ongoing, including discussions with astrologers,” he said.
Clarifying speculation about the political
future of his daughter, Sofia Firdous, the Congress MLA from Barabati-Cuttack,
Moquim said she would chart her political course independently.
